RISE To The Top

The Student Editorial Team had the opportunity to talk with the members of the REX Institute for Student Excellence (RISE), one of the newest departments in the ever growing REX Group of companies; the primary goal of the department is to measure and test students’ capabilities. The resource speakers were able to give a background on the impact of REX’s newest department and the processes involved within.

For the interview, the members of the department provided details about the newly developed organization which helps shed light on REX’s rising section.
The team had the opportunity of interviewing Ms. Adel, one of the department’s freshest employees who happens to be spending most of her time alongside the student trainees, “I think they are reliable enough to do some tasks and they delivered naman to their given time” she answered with a smile when asked about the performance of the student trainees. When asked about the importance of RISE for the students and REX’s clients in her perspective, she answered that it fully evaluates the weaknesses and strengths of the students through properly given instructions.

The team also had the honor of interviewing Mr. Dexter Ngo, RISE’s General Manager. In the interview, Mr. Ngo shared that the department first started when the Department of Education (DepEd) agreed with some departmental orders which orders a shift in focusing on student assessments, Because of that, DepEd came up with their own tests like the National Achievement Test (NAT) and other testing materials. But despite of this, DepEd’s methods did not cover all the aspects of the assessment. So instead, they gave it to the schools, publishers and other assessment institutions to give a focus on the product instead. The RISE department initially focused on student assessments and performance. As of now, their team is also focusing on other things like student intervention and the development of products that seeks to enhance the performance of students as well as evaluate the skills that they have.

The last to be interviewed were the student trainees in order to give a look into their perspectives. The student trainees were majorly comprised of General Academic Strand students from Ina ng Buhay Catholic School and St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. When asked regarding the processes in their department, they stated that their training focused on the documentation, editing, and encoding of confidential files which are used in the department. Although they expressed the same thought differently, they all agreed that the knowledge that they’ve picked up in their strands proved to be applicable to the work assigned to them.

Although the department is fairly new, they are certainly ready to leave their mark on the world under REX’s banner.

The REXperience

"An activity that we must attend as it is a requirement for us to be able to graduate in senior high school"   That was my mind-set on what the Work Immersion Program(WIP) is. Based on what I have heard about the program, I thought that I would just be in charge of running errands for the superiors such as buying them food, office materials, and cellphone load. But despite of this, I felt very excited because I will be able to reunite with my friends and classmates. OJTs from the Editorial and Creatives Departments At the first day of our WIP, I was impressed on how they welcomed us. The employees were very accommodating; they toured us around the workplace and I must say, their office was really well-organized. On the succeeding days as part of the Editorial OJT team together with the Creatives OJT team; we, as a team, were all thankful that we were assigned in our respective departments where we were able to enhance our skills and knowledge through the guidance...

Facing the Lair of adversities in being an Exemplary employee

Being an Associate Editor is a tedious task in itself, but for Sir Heinrick G. Rabara, such is a challenging yet rewarding job; for he is a law student as well. He is currently employed in REX Book Store Inc. as an Associate Editor for Law Education. He graduated Cum laude at Araullo University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Currently, he is taking Law at Adamson University . His job is a road of hardships and adversities but still manages to perform well at work and at school as well. Contrary to popular belief, being an Associate Editor is not just about copyediting the author’s work; one should also possess ideal communication skills which are necessary addressing the author about his or her specific styles and in communicating with other departments of the company. One should also withhold a decorous reasoning skills especially when asked, and of course the willingness to the given task. Time is a huge factor to Sir Heinrick’s day. Working a...
