Know You Better : ATG

Being the head of a newly established division can be considered as a big challenge. Mr. Almario Tobias Gallero, who happens to be in his 10th year in REX group of companies is currently the Supervising Editor of the Commercial and Supplement Section whose primary function is to develop, edit, proof-read and copy-edit non-textbook materials including journals and most of Atty. Dominador Buhain’s works, the President of REX group of companies.

He was hired to be the Product Development Officer who was tasked to develop science and math journals. When the journals materialized, he assumed the position of Editor-in-Chief of these journals. Later on, he became a Business Development Officer, until he eventually became the supervising editor. As said earlier, his department has just recently been created. Mr. Gallero stated that the challenge he experienced was the development of his department. Since it is relatively new, the directions of the section has not been clearly identified. But despite this difficulty, he proved that he can be in line with the other departments.  He finished the new titles that were made for math and science journals and were launched at the now-defunct Science Discovery Center in SM Mall of Asia (MOA) three (3) months after conceptualizing the journals.
Before succeeding all of these accomplishments, let us have a little glimpse in his life. He was born on November 14, 1975 in the City of Manila. He is turning 42 this year and lives just REX near Welcome Rotunda. He finished elementary at Timoteo Paez Elementary School, which is a public school in Malibay, Pasay City making him a proud product of a public school. He then studied high school at a semi-private school which happens to be a branch of Arellano University, -  Apolinario Mabini High School. During his tertiary years, he studied and graduated at Far Eastern University (FEU) Morayta with a course of Mass Communication. He admitted that his first course was engineering, but for the reason that he is really fond of writing and figured out how dedicated he was, he wanted to shift course to Journalism. But since his school did not offer this course, that’s the time he chose to pursue Mass Communication. Before entering the REX Group of Companies, he had two “previous lives” as they say; he was previously connected with the Communication Foundation of Asia (CFA) first as Editorial Assistant and eventually as editor of the Gospel comics. He managed the three editions of the popular title. Then, his second job was a Content Writer and Editor in Sandiwaan, a non-profit organization that caters to out-of-school youth. During his vacant time, he revealed that he plays basketball and likes swimming as his leisure.

Mr. Gallero has been blissfully married for five  delightful years and has two children - a boy and a girl.
His family turned out to be his inspiration in his field of work so he knew he could show off his better side. He aspires to become an author someday. He confided that his credentials do not support his aspirations to be an author but his talents and skill sets prove otherwise.
“Your foundation should be the mastery of the English language. Start off with mastering grammar, particularly the subject-verb agreement”, a message for all students who wanted to be like him. “It’s a matter of dealing not only with failures and success as well.”

The REXperience

"An activity that we must attend as it is a requirement for us to be able to graduate in senior high school"   That was my mind-set on what the Work Immersion Program(WIP) is. Based on what I have heard about the program, I thought that I would just be in charge of running errands for the superiors such as buying them food, office materials, and cellphone load. But despite of this, I felt very excited because I will be able to reunite with my friends and classmates. OJTs from the Editorial and Creatives Departments At the first day of our WIP, I was impressed on how they welcomed us. The employees were very accommodating; they toured us around the workplace and I must say, their office was really well-organized. On the succeeding days as part of the Editorial OJT team together with the Creatives OJT team; we, as a team, were all thankful that we were assigned in our respective departments where we were able to enhance our skills and knowledge through the guidance...

Facing the Lair of adversities in being an Exemplary employee

Being an Associate Editor is a tedious task in itself, but for Sir Heinrick G. Rabara, such is a challenging yet rewarding job; for he is a law student as well. He is currently employed in REX Book Store Inc. as an Associate Editor for Law Education. He graduated Cum laude at Araullo University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Currently, he is taking Law at Adamson University . His job is a road of hardships and adversities but still manages to perform well at work and at school as well. Contrary to popular belief, being an Associate Editor is not just about copyediting the author’s work; one should also possess ideal communication skills which are necessary addressing the author about his or her specific styles and in communicating with other departments of the company. One should also withhold a decorous reasoning skills especially when asked, and of course the willingness to the given task. Time is a huge factor to Sir Heinrick’s day. Working a...
